South Korean telecom operator KT Corp said on Sunday it planned to begin selling Apple’s iPhone 4 this week amid growing competition to expand in the potentially lucrative smartphone market.
What didn’t we get from Apple during their 2010 special music event ? The iPod touch line got an extremely decent refresh , as well as the Nano . iPhone is getting iOS 4.1 next week with some newly added features and some much needed bug fixes .
Steve Jobs began his introduction of iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch not by listing the new features , but by listing the bugs it fixes — proximity sensor , Bluetooth, and iPhone 3G . Each of those were annoying enough to be near deal-breakers for some, so their being fixed is certainly good news. Finally. iOS 4.1 is scheduled to arrive next week. Is that soon enough for you

In the last few weeks, Apple’s little “hobby” — the long-lamented Apple TV — has come back into the spotlight, ironically thanks to rumors that it’s about to be put out to pasture in favor of a cheaper, sexier box reportedly called iTV (which, even more ironically, was the original name for ATV). While that’s all fine and good, we don’t think Apple has quite squeezed all of the juice out of its original living room lemon — so here are two handfuls of suggestions in case Cupertino decides to give the ATV another lease on life. 2010 has shaped up as an exciting year, what with a whole new iOS device introduced and a groovy new update to the iPhone, not to mention speedy new Macs and even a Magic Trackpad thrown in for good measure. September 1 promises to bring new iPods, but the rumor mill has been grinding overtime of late talking about iTV — supposedly Apple’s next salvo in the fight for our living rooms that began with the Apple TV. If the rumors become reality, the iTV box will be priced at a mere $99 and feature little or no on-board storage of its own; rather, the box will stream media from elsewhere, presumably your computer or perhaps from Apple’s own cloud-based servers
Playing popular strategy game Starcraft 2 using an iPhone or even an iPad sounds like a usability nightmare, but developer Daniel Hellerman is planning to make it happen regardless of the potential issues.
This Wednesday, at their annual special music event , Apple will most likely introduce the final version of iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch (though probably not for iPad ). Apple released the first beta for iOS 4.1 on July 14 and stuck to their every-two-weeks cycle for beta 2 on July 27 and beta 3 on August 3. What we’ve seen so far includes a new, font-crazy version of Game Center , which was also included in the iOS 4 betas but removed for the general release, and FaceTime connections over email , which will be required for non-phone devices like iPod touch 4.
The MPEG LA licensing group has announced that their H.264 video codec standard would be going royalty free in perpetuity for free-to-end-user use. Why does this matter to us? Well, if you’re using an iPhone or iPad, you’re using the H.264 video codec. If you buy video off iTunes, you’re using H.264. If you’re using Safari on iOS or Mac OS for that matter, you’re using H.264 because it’s the only HTML 5 video standard Apple supports
If you had placed bets on when Apple would schedule their annual media-centric event for next month, we hope you put your money on September 1, because the company has announced that’s when the gauntlet is officially being thrown down. What can we hope to see Cupertino announce next Wednesday? We dusted off an old magic eight-ball and translated the results for you, so read on and find out what’s on deck — or not. “Signs Point to Yes”: New iPods, iTunes 10, iLife ’11 Although new Apple products are typically shrouded in mystery prior to events such as the one on September 1, we have the advantage of tapping into nearly a decade of history and dug up clues as to what is most likely going to be announced next week.
If you loves you some iOS gaming , then this will come as very happy news: The much anticipated announcment that the iControlPad will become a twitchy fingered reality has been realized. Now, can we get a w00t-w00t? As awesome as the increasingly diverse range of games available to iPhone and iPod touch owners is, it’s a fair argument that many of the games that we know and love could be just a little more fabulous if the control possibilities weren’t so darned limited. Seriously, how many of you out there can look me in the eye and say that their high score wasn’t crippled by a less than perfect on screen joypad experience
